History

The history of Secure Bank Line of Credit (SBLC) dates back to the early 20th century, as a means for banks to provide guarantees to businesses and organizations that needed to secure payment from buyers or customers. The use of SBLCs became more common in international trade, as they provided a way for businesses in different countries to mitigate the risk of non-payment.

In the 1960s and 1970s, international trade expanded significantly, and SBLCs became an increasingly important tool for businesses involved in international trade. Banks began issuing SBLCs on a regular basis to facilitate trade between countries and to reduce the risk of non-payment.

In the 1980s, with the increased use of technology, the process of issuing and using SBLCs became more streamlined and efficient. Electronic communication and online banking systems made it possible for banks and businesses to issue and use SBLCs more quickly and easily.

In recent years, the use of SBLCs has continued to grow, particularly in emerging markets. With the increasing globalization of trade and the growth of the international financial markets, SBLCs have become an essential tool for businesses involved in international trade. Banks are adapting to provide more digital services and SBLC is one of the service that banks can offer to its customers.

The banking industry and government regulators have also put in place stricter regulations to ensure that SBLCs are issued and used in a safe and transparent manner. This includes AML/KYC regulations and legal requirement for banks to ensure that the SBLC is genuine and not from a fraudulent institution.
